With only 24 acres under vine and production typically under 1,000 cases of the Proprietary Red, Sloan is among Napa's most genuinely scarce premium producers. Parker awarded 99 points to the 2002 and 100 points to the 2005, with numerous vintages scoring 97–98 — placing it in the same critical tier as Harlan and Screaming Eagle. At auction, the numbers reflect this standing: 671 lots averaging $373 per bottle, the highest average price among California producers in this cohort. Top vintages of the Proprietary Red regularly trade at $500–800 per bottle, with magnums of the 2002 and 2005 fetching $1,500–2,500. Asterisk, designed as an accessible second wine, still commands $100–150 at auction — a floor set by the brand's prestige. The estate is farmed by the team that originally established the viticulture practices of Harlan Estate, and the vineyard management philosophy emphasizes extremely low yields and meticulous canopy management on the benchland soils that define the Oakville-Rutherford corridor.
