Symington
The Symington Family Estates is the dominant force in Port production, controlling famous houses including Graham's, Dow's, Warre's, and Cockburn's, as well as the prestige Quinta do Vesuvio. For auction purposes, the Symington brand here refers primarily to Quinta do Vesuvio, the jewel of the Symington portfolio — a single-quinta Port estate in the Douro Superior producing some of the finest Vintage Port available. Quinta do Vesuvio covers 126 hectares of vineyards at one of the Douro's most remote and challenging terroirs, producing single-quinta Vintage Port declared in most years (unlike traditional houses that declare together following a trade meeting). The primary cuvées at auction are the Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage and the smaller production Chapel do Vesuvio. At auction, prices range from $21 to $149 with an average of $69 across 124 lots — extremely accessible pricing for single-quinta Vintage Port of this caliber. The 1994, 2000, 2003, and 2011 Vesuvio Vintages are considered benchmark releases.

In the Glass
Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port is rich, powerful, and concentrated: blackberry preserve, dried fig, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and a distinctive granite mineral quality from the Douro Superior schist soils. The wines are massively structured in youth and require 20–30 years to fully integrate. Older vintages develop extraordinary complexity of dried fruit, tobacco, and walnut.
