About Bartolo Mascarello
Cantina Bartolo Mascarello is a family winery in the village of Barolo, passed down from Bartolomeo to Giulio and then to Bartolo, who joined in 1945. Bartolo farmed four small plots in Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Rué in Barolo and Rocche in La Morra. He kept the old practice of blending them into one Barolo instead of bottling single vineyards. He became the best-known defender of traditional Barolo against new French barriques, and his hand-painted 'No Barrique, No Berlusconi' label became famous. After his death in 2005 his daughter Maria Teresa took over. She keeps his methods, does no marketing and has no website.
