About Chateau L'Evangile
L'Évangile lies on the eastern side of Pomerol, close to Pétrus, La Conseillante and Vieux Château Certan, near the Saint-Émilion border and Cheval Blanc. It appears in the 1741 land register as Fazilleau, owned by the Léglise family of Libourne. Around 1800 a lawyer named Isambert gave it its present name. Paul Chaperon bought it in 1862, and his descendants, the Ducasse family, kept it until 1990. That year it passed to Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the Lafite owners. The wine is about four-fifths Merlot with Cabernet Franc and is aged in largely new oak. The second wine is Blason de L'Évangile. Like all Pomerol, it is unclassified.
