About Domaine Francois Raveneau

François Raveneau created the domaine in 1948 by joining vineyards he had bought with those of his wife's family, the Dauvissats, and became the first in his family to bottle his own wine. While Chablis struggled after phylloxera, the war and competition from the Languedoc, he bought land cheaply in the 1960s and 1970s, including grand cru parcels. The American importer Kermit Lynch, after tasting the wine at Taillevent, eventually persuaded him to export from the early 1980s. His son Jean-Marie took over winemaking in 1984, joined by his brother Bernard in 1995. The 9.29 ha are all Chardonnay, hand-harvested and aged in older barrels.
