About Giacomo Conterno
Giacomo Conterno, based in Monforte d'Alba, traces its Barolo to Giovanni Conterno's tavern, founded in 1908, and to his son Giacomo, who returned from the First World War and became one of the first small producers to bottle his own Barolo in the 1920s. After Giovanni's death in 1934 Giacomo created Monfortino, a long-ageing riserva, and for decades the wines came from purchased grapes. His sons Giovanni and Aldo took over in 1961, until Aldo left to found his own estate in 1969. Giovanni bought the Cascina Francia vineyard in Serralunga in 1974. His son Roberto later added Cerretta in 2008 and Arione in 2015.
