About Vieux Chateau Certan
Vieux Château Certan is one of Pomerol's oldest estates. Its own history traces it to the Demay family, who came from Scotland in the 16th century, and an 18th-century map records it as 'Sertan'. Charles de Bousquet bought it in 1858 and gave the buildings their present look. Belgian merchant Georges Thienpont bought it in 1924, and the family still owns it; Alexandre Thienpont took over management in 1985. Like all Pomerol, it is unclassified. Its single 14-hectare block is mostly Merlot on clay, with an unusually large share of Cabernet Franc and some Cabernet Sauvignon on gravel. The second wine is Gravette de Certan.
