About Masseto
Masseto is a pure Merlot from a 7-hectare vineyard of the Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri, Tuscany. Ornellaia was founded by Marchese Lodovico Antinori with the winemaker Tibor Gál. Masseto's grapes were first bottled on their own with the 1986 vintage, at first simply as 'Merlot' and then as Masseto from the second vintage. Its rising importance led the estate to rename itself 'Ornellaia e Masseto' in 2012. Robert Mondavi bought into Ornellaia from 1999 alongside the Frescobaldi family, and in 2005 Frescobaldi became sole owner. A second wine, Massetino, a Merlot–Cabernet Franc blend, has been made since 2017.
