Chateau La Conseillante is among the most elegant and sought-after estates in Pomerol, situated on a key plateau parcel directly bordering Petrus to the north and Cheval Blanc to the west. The Nicolas family has owned the estate since 1871, farming approximately 12 hectares of clay-rich soils planted predominantly to Merlot with a component of Cabernet Franc. The wine's hallmark is silky texture and aromatic precision rare among Pomerol's denser, more opulent examples. At auction, 1,127 lots average $273 per bottle with prices reaching $5,079. The 2000 vintage is the most sought-after in the database, achieving near-perfect critical scores with auction prices regularly exceeding $500 per bottle. Other benchmark vintages include 1989, 1998, 2001, 2005, 2010, and 2015. The estate introduced a second wine, Duo de Conseillante, from 2011, allowing stricter selection for the grand vin. La Conseillante has no official classification but is universally regarded alongside Lafleur, L'Eglise-Clinet, and Vieux Chateau Certan as Pomerol's second tier behind Petrus—a position consistently validated by secondary market pricing.
