Freemark Abbey

Freemark Abbey is one of Napa Valley's oldest continuously operating wineries, tracing its roots to 1886 with the current winery established formally in 1967 by a partnership that included Charles Carpy and Brad Webb. The winery was an early pioneer of single-vineyard Napa Cabernet: Bosche (from John Bosche's Rutherford vineyard) was one of the first designated single-vineyard Napa Cabernets, bottled from the 1967 vintage onward. At auction the estate spans a remarkable vintage range—from the 1976 and 1977 Chardonnays that competed in the Bicentennial tasting era to current releases. Cabernet Bosche is the flagship collectible (81 lots, $113, 1980 peak), while the broader Cabernet Sauvignon trades at $83 (120 lots, 1976 most active). A 1977 Chardonnay ($38, 6 lots) is among the oldest white wines in the Napa auction record. Sycamore Vineyard Cabernet averages $117 (7 lots).
