Oddero

Oddero is a historic Barolo estate based in La Morra, with origins dating to 1878 and among the largest land holdings in the Langhe — approximately 35 hectares across six communes and multiple premier crus. The family has long operated in a traditional style: extended maceration on the skins, large Slavonian oak casks for aging, and minimal intervention to preserve the character of individual sites. The portfolio spans Barolo crus including Villero (Castiglione Falletto), Rocche di Castiglione, Brunate, and Mondoca di Bussia Soprana, as well as Barbaresco from Gallina. Villero and Rocche di Castiglione are the flagship MGA designations; Villero averages $76 per bottle across 38 lots while Rocche di Castiglione averages $86 across 33 lots, with the Riserva — aged substantially longer in oak — reaching an average of $176 across 18 lots. The 1996 Riserva is among the most celebrated library bottles in the portfolio, reaching prices toward the $777 ceiling. A significant structural development occurred in 2012 when the estate divided between the main Oddero heirs: one branch retains the Oddero label while another operates as Giacomo Oddero. Across 303 auction lots averaging $99, the estate offers accessible entry points into traditional Barolo from a family with over a century of uninterrupted production in Castiglione Falletto and La Morra.

Oddero farms approximately 35 hectares across six Barolo communes and multiple MGAs including Villero, Rocche di Castiglione, Brunate, and Mondoca di Bussia Soprana — one of the largest contiguous holdings in the appellation.
The estate practices traditional Barolo production: extended skin maceration and aging in large Slavonian oak casks preserve site-specific character across its single-vineyard lineup.
The Riserva bottling averages $176 per bottle at auction versus $76–$86 for the standard cru wines; the 1996 Riserva is particularly sought after, with bottles reaching the $777 price ceiling in the auction record.
In 2012 the Oddero family split into two separate estates — Oddero and Giacomo Oddero — a division that has added collector interest in pre-split library vintages bearing the original label.

In the Glass

Traditional Nebbiolo in the Serralunga-La Morra style: dried rose petal, tar, leather, and iron-rich earth on the nose. The palate shows bright cherry and pomegranate fruit framed by firm, grippy tannins and bracing acidity typical of the variety. Villero adds structure and dark berry depth; Rocche di Castiglione brings more floral lift. Older Riservas develop tobacco, truffle, and dried fig complexity over 15–25 years.
