About Dundee Hills
Dundee Hills is a Willamette Valley sub-AVA in Yamhill County, about 28 miles south-west of Portland near Newberg. It was established in November 2004 on a petition first filed under the name 'Red Hills'. The hills run north to south on the west side of the Willamette valley. Their reddish Jory soils of silt, clay and loam drain well, and the Chehalem Mountains shield them from cool Columbia Gorge winds. Winegrowing began in 1966, when David Lett founded Eyrie Vineyards with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. At establishment the AVA had about 1,500 acres of vines and over 25 wineries and vineyards.
