About Barbera d'Alba
Barbera d'Alba is the DOC for Barbera grown around Alba in Piedmont. Barbera is a red grape with deep colour, full body, low tannin and high acidity. Around Alba the best sites usually go to Nebbiolo, so relatively little Barbera grows there. That lets Alba producers sell an earlier-drinking Barbera while their Nebbiolo ages. Compared with the brighter, more elegant Barbera d'Asti, Barbera d'Alba tends to be darker, with more intense and powerful fruit.
