About Chateau La Conseillante
La Conseillante is on the eastern edge of Pomerol, between Petit-Village, Vieux Château Certan and L'Évangile on one side and Cheval Blanc across the Saint-Émilion border on the other. The name comes from Catherine Conseillan, a Libourne iron merchant who inherited the farm in 1734. She had planted vines by the 1750s and left the estate to a niece so it would stay whole. Louis Nicolas bought it in 1871, and his family still owns it. He was among the first to fight phylloxera by injecting carbon disulphide into the soil. The 12 hectares are about four-fifths Merlot with Cabernet Franc, and the second wine is Duo de Conseillante.
