About Chateau Leoville Barton

Léoville Barton was once part of the great Léoville estate in Saint-Julien, which was split into the three Léoville properties. Hugh Barton, from a family of Irish descent, bought this portion in 1826, and the Bartons still own it, along with its sister estate Langoa Barton, making it one of the longest family ownerships in Bordeaux. There is no château building: the wine is made at Langoa, whose château appears on the label. Ranked a Second Growth in 1855, it was run by Anthony Barton from 1983, after his uncle Ronald. The gravel-over-clay vineyard is planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, and the second wine is La Réserve.
