About Chateau Lynch-Bages

Lynch-Bages takes its name from the Lynch family of Galway: John Lynch, who emigrated to Bordeaux in 1691, gained an estate in the hamlet of Bages through his wife in 1749. His descendants held it until 1824, when it was sold to the Swiss merchant Sébastien Jurine; the Jurine and then Cayrou families followed. Ranked a Fifth Growth in 1855, the property was leased by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1934 and bought by him in 1938. His grandson Jean-Michel Cazes later managed it and also ran AXA's Châteaux & Associés. The 90 ha gravel ridge is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon; a white Blanc de Lynch-Bages has been made since 1990.
