About Chateau Trotanoy
Trotanoy is a small Pomerol estate of about 7.2 hectares, planted to roughly nine parts Merlot to one of Cabernet Franc. In the 18th century, under the Giraud family, it was called Trop Ennuie ('too troublesome'), a reference to how hard its soil was to work. It took its present name in the early 20th century, and Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, also behind Pétrus, bought it in 1953. Its soils are half gravel and clay and half deep black clay over iron-rich subsoil. The vineyard escaped the 1956 frost, so many of its vines are old. A second wine, L'Espérance de Trotanoy, has been made in some years since 2009.
