About Domaine Ponsot

Domaine Ponsot dates from 1872, when William Ponsot, back from the Franco-Prussian War, acquired a house and vines in Morey-Saint-Denis, including Clos des Monts Luisants and part of Clos de la Roche. In 1911 he replanted Monts Luisants with Aligoté, still the only premier cru Burgundy made wholly from that grape. His godson Hippolyte, a former lawyer and diplomat, succeeded him, began estate bottling in 1934 and helped define Burgundy's AOC rules. Hippolyte's son Jean-Marie took over in 1957 and added sharecropped parcels. Laurent Ponsot made the wines from 1983 to 2017 and exposed fake Ponsot bottles consigned by Rudy Kurniawan. Rose-Marie Ponsot now owns it.
