About Ducru-Beaucaillou
Ducru-Beaucaillou, a Second Growth in Saint-Julien, takes its name from the large gravel stones, the 'beaux cailloux', of its 50 ha by the Gironde. The Borie family has held it since 1941, when François Borie bought it; the estate's own history says Francis Borie first took a life lease in 1942. His son Jean-Eugène, in charge from 1959, restored the vineyard and cellars, and Bruno-Eugène Borie now runs it as resident owner. A cellar contamination in the 1980s affected several vintages, including 1988 to 1990, and a new underground cellar followed in the late 1990s. La Croix de Beaucaillou has been made since 1995.
