About Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion
La Mission Haut-Brion faces Haut-Brion across the road between Pessac and Talence. Arnaud de Lestonnac bought the first parcel in 1540, and in 1682 the property passed to the Lazarist priests, who farmed it until the Revolution, building its chapel in 1698. The Chiapella family later held it for nearly a century. Frédéric Woltner bought it in 1919, and his son Henri pioneered glass-lined vats in 1926 and made it Haut-Brion's chief rival. In the 1953 Graves classification it became a Cru Classé. Family disputes led to its 1983 sale to Domaine Clarence Dillon, owner of Haut-Brion, along with La Tour Haut-Brion and Laville Haut-Brion.
