About Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte

Smith Haut Lafitte is in Martillac, south of Bordeaux, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Its story begins in the 14th century with the Verrier du Boscq family, who planted vines on a gravel rise called Lafitte. In 1720 the Scottish merchant George Smith bought it, added his name and built the manor house. The Eschenauer firm, which had long sold the wine, bought the estate in 1958. Daniel and Florence Cathiard bought it in 1990 and invested heavily, including in a new cellar. The red is classified in the Graves classification. About 67 hectares are planted, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a white wine led by Sauvignon Blanc.
