About Valdicava

Valdicava sits on the Montosoli slope north of Montalcino. The Abbruzzese family had once worked this land as sharecroppers, and in 1953, with money from a tanning business, they bought some 300 hectares there, largely for sentimental reasons. The family started making Brunello in 1967 and was among the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino consortium. Vincenzo Abbruzzese, the proprietor, has worked at the estate full time since 1987, with consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli involved from the start. The small family winery makes a Brunello di Montalcino and the single-vineyard Madonna del Piano Riserva, from low-yielding Sangiovese aged in cask.
