Abreu

Abreu Vineyard is a micro-négociant and estate producer in Napa Valley, founded by David Abreu — the valley's most sought-after vineyard manager — who began producing wine under his own label in 1995. Each Abreu wine is sourced from a named vineyard managed or owned by David Abreu: Madrona Ranch (St Helena), Thorevilos (St Helena), Cappella (Rutherford), Rothwell Hyde (Carneros), and a Red blend. Across 1,453 auction lots averaging $343 per bottle, Abreu occupies Napa's top tier with production of roughly 100–200 cases per label annually. Madrona Ranch, the flagship, is from a 30-year-old vineyard in St Helena and routinely earns 96–100-point scores; it typically trades above $400 per bottle. Thorevilos, introduced in the 2004 vintage, has become one of the most critically acclaimed newer Napa Cabernets. Cappella, from a Rutherford site, adds a more structured mineral quality. Rothwell Hyde from Carneros has significantly lower average prices as a cooler-climate Cabernet with distinct character. All wines are made in extremely small quantities, sold solely through a mailing list allocation, and produced in a style of concentrated elegance — high extraction but balanced by natural acidity. David Abreu's vineyard work for estates including Harlan, Bond, Screaming Eagle, and Colgin means his farming philosophy directly underpins the Napa cult wine phenomenon.

David Abreu manages vineyards for Harlan Estate, Screaming Eagle, Colgin, and Bond — Napa's highest-priced cult producers — in addition to producing wine under his own label from sites he farms himself.
Abreu Madrona Ranch has been awarded 97–100 points by multiple critics in back-to-back vintages; with fewer than 200 cases produced annually and allocation-only release, secondary market is the primary collector access point.
Thorevilos, introduced in 2004 from a St Helena mountain site, received 100 points from Wine Advocate for the 2012 vintage and has traded above $600 per bottle in that year.
Abreu's per-bottle auction average of $343 across 1,453 lots places it firmly in Napa's top-10 most valuable producers by average price, despite annual production across all labels of under 1,000 total cases.

In the Glass

Abreu Cabernet Sauvignons are defined by David Abreu's farming philosophy of ultra-low yields and impeccable fruit quality: dense cassis, black plum, dark chocolate, violet, and cedar, with the minerality and structural precision that distinguishes St Helena and Rutherford from warmer, flatter Napa sites. Full-bodied with exceptional concentration and fine-grained tannins. The wines are age-worthy — typically peaking 15–25 years post-vintage — but approachable earlier than many peers.
