Domaine Bizot

Domaine Bizot is a tiny, reclusive Vosne-Romanée estate operated by Jean-Yves Bizot, farming approximately 2.5 hectares in Vosne-Romanée, Échezeaux Grand Cru, and the monopole Aux Jachées and Aux Réas village vineyards. Bizot is widely regarded as one of Burgundy's most uncompromising natural winemakers: no destemming, no addition of sulphur until bottling, minimal intervention, and a refusal to engage with the mainstream wine press. The wines are produced in such tiny quantities — typically 600–1,200 bottles per cuvée — that even the wealthiest collectors struggle to acquire them through normal channels. Échezeaux is the estate's Grand Cru anchor, earning 96–100 points from Burghound and Bill Nanson consistently across top vintages; the village Vosne-Romanée wines show equal refinement. The estate's pricing at auction is extraordinary: 544 lots averaging $1,897 per bottle — the highest average of any producer in this entire database — with Échezeaux regularly trading at $3,000–6,000 per bottle and village Vosne lots at $600–1,200. Bizot occupies a unique position: technically not a domaine of the first rank by historic classification, yet commanding prices and critical devotion that rival or exceed the greatest names in Burgundy. The estate's radical purity of expression and cult following among natural wine devotees drives fierce auction competition.
