Richebourg

Vosne-Romanée · Côte de Nuits · Burgundy · France · Wine Auction Prices

Richebourg is a 8.03-hectare Grand Cru of extraordinary power and complexity in Vosne-Romanée, lying just north of Romanée-Conti on the mid-slope. Unlike the monopole Grand Crus of DRC, Richebourg has multiple owners — giving collectors a rare opportunity to compare how different winemaking philosophies express the same elite terroir. The soils here are deeper and richer than Romanée-Conti to the south, with greater clay content contributing to the wine's characteristic weight and opulence. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti holds the largest parcel (3.51 ha), followed by Domaine Leroy (0.78 ha), Domaine Anne Gros (0.6 ha), and Domaine Méo-Camuzet. In top vintages, Richebourg from DRC and Leroy competes directly with La Tâche at auction; the Leroy version in particular is often allocated at prices that exceed the DRC expression on the secondary market.

Richebourg
01

Richebourg (8.03 ha) has multiple owners — DRC holds the largest parcel (3.51 ha), while Domaine Leroy's 0.78 ha produces a more concentrated, intensely structured wine that regularly surpasses DRC in blind tastings.

02

Domaine Anne Gros (formerly Michel Gros/Louis Gros before the family division) farms 0.6 ha and produces a more approachable style with earlier drinkability than either DRC or Leroy.

03

Richebourg sits north of Romanée-Conti on deeper, clay-rich soils that produce greater weight and extract — described by many critics as the most 'Burgundian' of the Vosne Grand Crus.

04

Domaine Méo-Camuzet and Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat also hold parcels, providing a broader range of stylistic expressions than any other Vosne Grand Cru.

In the Glass

Richebourg is the most voluminous and opulent of the Vosne-Romanée Grand Crus: rich black cherry, cassis, and plum fruit supported by silky tannin, exotic spice, and an almost creamy texture in youth. With age it develops a complex weave of sous bois, leather, iron, and dried flowers, with a finish that can extend for minutes. DRC's version tends toward precision and elegance; Leroy's toward power and concentration.
