About Chateau Lafite Rothschild

Lafite, in northern Pauillac, was recorded as the property of Gombaud de Lafite in 1234. The Ségur family bought it in the 17th century, and Jacques de Ségur planted most of the vineyard around 1680; his successor Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur spread its fame at the French court. Confiscated during the Terror, it was sold to Dutch merchants in 1797 and later held by the Vanlerberghe family. Baron James de Rothschild bought it in 1868 but died months later, leaving it to his three sons. Ranked a First Growth in 1855, it was run by Éric de Rothschild from 1974 until his daughter Saskia succeeded him in 2018.
