Latricières-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin · Côte de Nuits · Burgundy · France · Wine Auction Prices

Latricières-Chambertin is a 7.35-hectare Grand Cru lying immediately south of Chambertin on the Gevrey-Chambertin slope, separated by a narrow band of less favoured terrain that marks the boundary with the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis. The soils in Latricières are shallower and stonier than Chambertin, with a higher proportion of Bajocian limestone, which produces wines that tend toward greater aromatic elegance and mineral precision rather than the raw power of Chambertin. Domaine Leroy holds a prized parcel producing one of the most concentrated and age-worthy expressions of the appellation. Trapet Père et Fils and Domaine Rossignol-Trapet (formerly a single domaine, divided in 1990) together farm the largest portions and produce contrasting styles. Faiveley and Domaine Ponsot contribute further serious expressions. Latricières represents excellent relative value within the Gevrey Grand Cru tier, typically priced at 30–40% less than Chambertin.

Latricières-Chambertin
01

Latricières-Chambertin (7.35 ha) borders Chambertin to the south and produces wines of comparable aromatic complexity but greater mineral precision due to shallower, more limestone-dominant soils.

02

Domaine Leroy's small parcel produces one of the most concentrated and sought-after Latricières at auction — typically $1,500–$3,000 per bottle — driven by ultra-low yields and biodynamic farming.

03

Trapet Père et Fils and Domaine Rossignol-Trapet were once a single family estate; their contrasting styles from adjacent parcels offer an exceptional comparison of winemaking approach on identical terroir.

04

Latricières offers relative value within the Gevrey Grand Cru tier, typically priced 30–40% below Chambertin despite comparable soil geology and exposition.

In the Glass

Latricières-Chambertin balances the power of Gevrey with a distinctive stony mineral character: dark cherry, blackberry, and iron over a taut, linear backbone with violet and game notes emerging with age. The wines are less immediately opulent than Chambertin but develop extraordinary complexity over 10–20 years in bottle, revealing dried rose, spice, and a long mineral finish characteristic of the appellation's thin limestone soils.
